Two days after the announcement that Auburn had fired head coach Gene Chizik, the Tigers have lost their second commitment in the 2013 class. According to Central Gwinnett head coach Todd Wofford, ESPN 150 linebacker Trey Johnson (Lawrenceville, Ga./Central Gwinnett) is reopening his recruitment.
"Trey is going to decommit from Auburn today," Wofford said. "Trey wants to be fair to himself and to the teams that he has interest in. He isn't going to address Auburn until they name a coach."
Johnson took his first official visit over the weekend to Ohio State. Upon his return, he did not want to discussion the situation at Auburn.
"I do not want to talk about anything specific yet," Johnson said. "I want to wait and see who they bring in and continue to take my visits."
The No. 96 prospect in the country did have nice things to say about his time in Columbus, Ohio.
"I loved the game atmosphere, facilities and the staff," Johnson said. "My dad liked it a lot, too. Linebacker is their priority and I could play there next year."
Now that he is back on the market, Johnson will take officials to Florida Dec. 14 and to USC on Jan. 18. Trojans recruiting coordinator Ed Orgeron is expected to visit Johnson for an in-home visit today and Ohio State is expected later this week. Prep school wide receiver Ja'Quay Williams (Tyrone, Ga./Fork Union Prep Academy) decommitted from Auburn on Sunday after signing with the Tigers out of high school.
