Most followers of recruiting were not shocked to hear of the decommitment of ESPN 150 running back Alex Collins (Plantation, Fla./South Plantation). For months the 5-foot-11, 195-pound senior has been openly entertaining overtures from Florida State and Wisconsin.
Barring injury, freshman running back Duke Johnson should hold down the starting spot in the Hurricanes’ backfield in 2013 and 2014 at least. Behind Johnson they will have Eduardo Clements, who would be a senior, and Danny Dillard, who is being redshirted this year. Dallas Crawford, who is listed as a running back, is considered to be more of an all-purpose weapon who can line up several places.
With Collins gone the Hurricanes can look to several options and might not have to go very far.
