LSU was a dream school for Alexandria (La.) Senior High School receiver D.J. Chark growing up.
So when the 2014 prospect got the opportunity to become a Tiger while on an unofficial visit to campus on Monday, he took advantage and gave LSU his verbal pledge.
"It's great," Chark said. "I feel really good."
Chark, who was recruited by special teams coordinator Thomas McGaughey, named a top three of LSU, Oklahoma State and Texas A&M going into the visit and was planning a return visit to the Aggies after they offered him on Sunday night, a week after he performed at their June 2 camp.
But after touring the campus and soaking in everything LSU had to offer academically and athletically and spending time with the coaching staff, Chark believed it was time to make a pledge right then and there in Les Miles' office.
"I was convinced about coming to LSU and that's when we shook on my commitment," Chark said.
The 6-foot-1, 176-pound receiver won't be visiting the Aggies now and is happy to be staying with his home state Tigers. Chark built a good relationship with McGaughey, who hopes to use him on special teams in addition to receiver when Chark arrives at LSU.
"He became like a mentor," Chark said. "He knows what he's doing and he does it well."
Aside from his top three, Chark had offers from Memphis, Tulane, Southeastern Louisiana and Southern University.

When he made his first trip to College Station, Texas, in October for the Texas A&M-LSU game, Alexandria (La.) Senior High School 2014 receiver D.J. Chark remembers enjoying the experience.
On June 2, Chark returned to Aggieland, this time for their first Sunday camp of 2013. He performed well enough to earn a scholarship offer from the staff, which he was told about on Sunday night after the Aggies' second Sunday camp, which he did not attend.

Oklahoma State scored arguably its biggest commitment of the 2014 recruiting class on Wednesday, as four-star quarterback Mason Rudolph (Rock Hill, S.C./Northwestern) verbally committed during a press conference at his school. Rudolph confirmed the commitment via text message.
The nation’s No. 8 pocket-passing quarterback, Rudolph chose Oklahoma State over LSU and Virginia Tech. He also had Ole Miss and Louisville offers and interest from several other programs.
A 6-foot-4, 212-pound gunslinger, Rudolph threw for 4,010 yards and 41 touchdowns, and he also completed nearly 70 percent of his passes. Rudolph was an all-state selection and is considered one of South Carolina’s most heralded recruiting targets.
Rudolph is ranked No. 4 in the state of South Carolina.

The high school eligibility of Norman (Okla.) North quarterback David Cornwell is still in limbo, but the recruiting process isn’t slowing down.
Cornwell was back in a familiar location last weekend, spending two days at Alabama. It was Cornwell’s fifth trip to Tuscaloosa in the last year.

Earlier this month, ESPN 150 wide receiver Cameron Sims (Monroe, La./Ouachita Parish) had what he called a quiet spring game, reeling in only four catches. But what Sims fails to mention is that he took those four completions for more than 160 yards and three touchdowns in front of several college coaches, including University of Georgia receivers’ coach Tony Ball, Billy Napier from Alabama and Cam Cameron from LSU.

NORCROSS, Ga. -- ESPN 150 defensive end Lorenzo Carter seems to never stop grinning, even on the football field. His 100-megawatt smile calls to mind another affable defensive end, Michael Strahan, complete with the trademark gap. Even a shoving match with a teammate resulted in Carter falling down laughing about it later.
During the Norcross spring game on Friday, Carter and offensive tackle Horatio Walker tangled as they went at each other in the trenches. Walker held Carter’s jersey and was rewarded with a shot to the helmet.
“Well it was a run, and I don’t think Horatio respects me on the run yet, but it is all good,” Carter said between guffaws. “He tried to bully me around, but I was not having that so I had to hit him back. I was having fun out there.”

For quarterback Brandon Harris (Bossier City, La./Parkway), the schedule book is starting to fill.
The first day to mark off the calendar is Thursday, when his Parkway team scrimmages Alexandria (La.) Senior High to conclude spring drills. He'll play in front of coaches from several major colleges. At the end of the scrimmage, sometime around 7 p.m, he'll announce which six schools he plans on visiting this summer.
"It's going to be a big day," he said. "I can't wait."

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Since the conclusion of spring practice, the University of Alabama coaching staff has been busy hitting the road, evaluating recruits. No coach has compiled more miles than offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier.
Nussmeier, the Crimson Tide’s quarterback guru, has already seen three prospects this week. After checking in on DeShone Kizer (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic) on Tuesday, he made a stop in Norman, Okla., on Wednesday to watch David Cornwell, the nation’s No. 1 pocket passer.

BUFORD, Ga. -- ESPN Watch List defensive end Lorenzo Carter (Norcross, Ga./Norcross) credits his blindingly pink socks and highlighter yellow shoelaces with helping him win the defensive lineman MVP award at the Atlanta NFTC on Saturday.
The award came with a brilliant gold dog tag that complemented his outfit. But what really caught Carter’s eye, and fashion sense, was the big gold box that he was handed that contained his invitation to The Opening.

DUNCANVILLE, Texas -- Speed might best define ESPN Watch List wide receiver K.D. Cannon (Mount Pleasant, Texas/Mount Pleasant). His hands might be a close second. His outstanding 4.37-second 40-yard dash time and his 104 catches for 1,597 yards and 25 touchdowns support that.
What Cannon has been recently working on is how to overcome size mismatches against larger defenders in the secondary. At 6-foot-0 and 170 pounds, he knows that at the next level he will go up against cornerbacks and safeties who are 15 or 20 pounds heavier -- and just as quick.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Two weeks ago, Poona Ford (Hilton Head, S.C./Hilton Head) was in Knoxville, Tenn., to check out the Volunteers. Much like Tennessee’s recent burst in recruiting momentum for the 2014 class, the 6-foot-1, 280-pound defensive tackle recently has seen his offer list explode.

CALERA, Ala. -- Interest in 2014 athlete Ronnie Clark continues to pick up. The latest schools to offer include Kentucky, Oklahoma State and Wisconsin, and even he admits that he was a little surprised when he found out the Badgers had offered a scholarship.
However, the only schools Clark has found time to visit are still the two in-state schools.
