GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Defensive end Trent Harris (Winter Park, Fla./Winter Park), a new ESPN 150 member, has narrowed his list of schools to six.
The 6-foot-2, 227-pound athlete said Florida, Georgia, Ohio State, Alabama, Florida State and Vanderbilt are his final six schools.

Ricky DeBerry (Richmond, Va./Saint Christopher’s School) has more than 30 offers and is doing his best to see as many teams as he can. He checked out Michigan and Michigan State in April. He visited Oklahoma, Clemson and Georgia in June.

WR Derek Kief commits to Alabama

The University of Alabama found its quarterback of the future on Friday when ESPN 150 selection David Cornwell (Norman, Okla./Norman North) committed to the Crimson Tide. Two days later, they reeled in a target to help Cornwell down the road, four-star wide receiver Derek Kief (Cincinnati/LaSalle).
"I love everything about it. I love the coaches, the offense, everything. They will develop me as a football player as well as a person," Kief said Sunday.
Last week, Kief and his family made a second trip to Tuscaloosa, Ala., where they spent time around the program, with the coaches and with several of the current players. Kief first visited Alabama in March during spring practice.
“It’s all business,” he said after that trip. “They’re very disciplined, and it shows if you do that, it’ll help you win.”
As a junior, Kief had 65 catches for 907 yards and nine touchdowns. He set a school record for receptions in a season and was named first-team all-district in Ohio.
"They said they can see me playing in multiple receiver positions," Kief said Sunday. "I run good routes for my size, and they said I'll be a red-zone weapon."
With the addition of Cornwell and Kief this weekend, Alabama has 12 commitments for 2014, a group that now includes eight four-star recruits. Kief becomes the first wide receiver taken by the Tide in this class.

But the Florida Gators got a double dose of good news from the nation's No. 1-ranked inside linebacker during his unofficial visit on Saturday.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- While bigger-name prospects come and go on unofficial visits to Florida's summer camp, 2014 defensive end Justus Reed (Clearwater, Fla./Central Catholic) stood out on Thursday by actually participating.
Reed showed up for the afternoon session, warmed up with a couple hundred other campers and did position drills under the watchful eyes of Florida head coach Will Muschamp and defensive line coach Brad Lawing.

"I'm just kind of out there, looking," he says. "There's still a lot to see, so I'll wait that out."
With cautious curiosity, Goolsby visited Ohio State and Florida this week -- two big steps in his plan to narrow a sizable offer list to a handful of top teams before his senior season and make a decision by the end of the fall.
The 6-foot-4, 225-pound tight end was in Columbus, Ohio, on Monday.

Derek Barnett (Brentwood, Tenn./Brentwood Academy) might already know what it’s like to play for Ohio State.
The 6-foot-3, 269-pound defensive end can’t help himself because he received an earful from his grandfather Gerald Kasunic growing up. See, Kasunic played for the Buckeyes in the early 1960s so the scarlet and gray has always been a topic of discussion in the Barnett household.
A fan of the Buckeyes, Barnett has heard the stories. Just how many, he’s not sure.
So when Ohio State called with an offer on Wednesday, it took him back a bit.

What a difference a year has made for Bryce Dixon (Ventura, Calif./St. Bonaventure). As a sophomore, Dixon was doing his best to make an impact as a 6-foot-2, 216-pound receiver, but he lacked some of the dynamic ability of California's terrific athletes at the position and had yet to break onto the recruiting scene. After bulking up and gaining some positional flexibility, the 6-4, 260-pound Dixon is now one of the nation's top tight ends and holds offers from a number of the country's top programs.
While a sprained ankle sideline him for several games and hampered him through others, Dixon didn't need much time to showcase his increased talent during his junior season. In a televised game, Dixon caught seven passes for 185 yards and two touchdowns in a 40-35 win against state power Corona (Calif.) Centennial. That game almost immediately produced his first offer, as the Miami Hurricanes came in the following Monday.

MESQUITE, Texas -- Class of 2015 quarterback Kyler Murray (Allen, Texas/Allen) has five offers so far, and his list of interested schools continues to grow.
Murray took in a satellite camp hosted by Sam Houston State and assisted by Arizona State, one of the schools to have offered, on Thursday afternoon. While he chose to watch the camp and not participate, Murray said he was a fan of what he saw from the Arizona State coaches.
"I've been talking to [offensive coordinator] Coach [Mike] Norvell, and he told me they liked me," Murray said. "I like what they're doing over there. I'm definitely interested."

Almost two years stand between George Brown Jr. (Cincinnati/Winton Woods) and a national letter of intent, so his visit to the Southeast this month was not about naming favorites or eliminating schools.
It did help the 6-foot-6, 255-pound athlete figure out where he wants to play at the next level, though. Brown, a 2015 prospect, is being recruited as a tight end, offensive lineman and defensive lineman. After camping at Clemson and Miami (Fla.), he is going to concentrate solely on defensive end.
