Football Recruiting - Southeast Region: Louisville Cardinals
NORCROSS, Ga. -- ESPN 150 defensive end Lorenzo Carter seems to never stop grinning, even on the football field. His 100-megawatt smile calls to mind another affable defensive end, Michael Strahan, complete with the trademark gap. Even a shoving match with a teammate resulted in Carter falling down laughing about it later.
During the Norcross spring game on Friday, Carter and offensive tackle Horatio Walker tangled as they went at each other in the trenches. Walker held Carter’s jersey and was rewarded with a shot to the helmet.
“Well it was a run, and I don’t think Horatio respects me on the run yet, but it is all good,” Carter said between guffaws. “He tried to bully me around, but I was not having that so I had to hit him back. I was having fun out there.”

If defensive tackle Matt Elam (Elizabethtown, Ky./John Hardin) didn’t know where he stood with the University of Alabama before this week, he does now.
On Tuesday, UA assistant coach Lance Thompson visited Elam at his school. The following day, head coach Nick Saban talked with the Kentucky native via Skype. The Crimson Tide offered back in February at a junior day

Urban Meyer is at it again.
The two-time national champion knows where the talent is and he’s not afraid to tap into Georgia time and again.
Ohio State went back to the Peach State late Wednesday night with offers to safety Kirk Tucker (Tucker, Ga./Tucker) and his teammate linebacker Detric Dukes, a Louisville commit.

ATHENS, Ga. -- Offensive tackle Dyshon Sims (Valdosta, Ga./Lowndes) awoke from a post-practice nap to find out that a longtime dreams of his had come true.
“I was actually sleeping around 9:30 when I got an alert on my phone from my Facebook account that I had gotten a message,” Sims said. “It was from the offensive line coach, Coach [Will] Friend. So I called him and he said they were offering me a full scholarship to come play at the University of Georgia.”
The 6-foot-4, 278-pound junior was taken aback.

Mike Johnson (Clearwater, Fla./Countryside) now sits as one of the top cornerbacks on the board for several colleges. His rise to this position, though, could have gone much differently.
Johnson wasn't a bad kid by any stretch. But as he got older, and so too did his friends, an increasing amount of trials and temptations presented themselves. Some gave in, but Johnson didn't.
And perhaps his extracurricular activities, most notably football, kept him going in the right direction.

Road-graders are typically huge in the deep South. However, there are some big men that college recruiters are chasing in the "northern" South: specifically Arkansas, Kentucky and Tennessee. Here are some big men to watch in the region:

When it comes to the Tampa area, wide receivers coach Lawrence Dawsey is usually the guy for Florida State.
But on Sunday, it was defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt that issued an offer to a prospective defensive back in Tajee Fullwood (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Bay Tech).

Cornerback De'Eric Culver (Tallahassee, Fla./Godby) became Louisville's 10th Class of 2013 pledge Friday, multiple sources report.
Culver selected the Cardinals over scholarship offers from Kentucky, Minnesota, Mississippi State, Ole Miss and South Carolina.
Auburn, Indiana, Missouri, South Florida, Tennessee and Vanderbilt also recruited the 5-foot-10, 169-pound prospect.
Culver posted an electronically-timed 4.75 40-yard dash, 4.63 20-yard shuttle, 29.5-inch vertical, 31-foot power throw and 63.93 SPARQ this spring at a Nike Combine.
Six of Louisville's 10 commitments are from the Sunshine State.

Elisha Shaw (Tucker, Ga./Tucker) already holds offers from Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, Ohio State and a handful of other big-time programs, so he wasn’t surprised to get a new offer on Monday.
He was surprised, however, that it came from Texas. The ESPN 150 defensive tackle met with Texas offensive line coach Stacy Searels on Monday and could look into checking out what the Longhorns have to offer this summer.

Jerome Baker (Cleveland/Benedictine) was told his recruitment would start blowing up after a successful sophomore season.
The 2015 running back/linebacker wasn’t expecting anything like this, however. And he surely wasn’t expecting the offers to come from such heavy hitters in the college football world, either.

Louisville head coach Charlie Strong continues to recruit the state of Florida well.
Safety Marques Gayot (Lake Worth, Fla./Park Vista Community) chose the Cardinals over California, Florida Atlantic and USF, among others.
"As of right now, yes, I am committed," Gayot said. "But I am also keeping my options open. The main part for me was that Louisville is the place to be."
Linebacker Jeff Williams (Tallahassee, Fla./Lincoln) and safety Michael Johnson (Hialeah, Fla./Champagnat Catholic) are Sunshine State prospects that have already committed to Louisville.
Johnson and Gayot currently are the only two defensive backs in Louisville's six-man 2014 class.

BUFORD, Ga. -- ESPN Watch List defensive end Lorenzo Carter (Norcross, Ga./Norcross) credits his blindingly pink socks and highlighter yellow shoelaces with helping him win the defensive lineman MVP award at the Atlanta NFTC on Saturday.
The award came with a brilliant gold dog tag that complemented his outfit. But what really caught Carter’s eye, and fashion sense, was the big gold box that he was handed that contained his invitation to The Opening.
