You won’t find UCF in the top 40 of the class rankings, but the Knights currently rank at No. 6 in the American Athletic Conference rankings. After the Knights’ 52-42 victory over Baylor in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl, here’s a look at how UCF has done on the recruiting trail and what it will need to do moving forward to capitalize on its BCS win.

SMU scores ESPN 300 QB Tyler Harris

The Mustangs have added a signature recruit to their 2014 class. According to multiple reports, ESPN 300 quarterback Tyler Harris (Blackshear, Ga./Pierce County) has committed to play for head coach June Jones and SMU.

Harris, a 6-foot-4, 221-pound athlete ranked as the country's No. 12 pocket passer, received scholarship offers from Alabama, Kentucky, Middle Tennessee, Mississippi State, South Florida and Troy.

Over the last few months, the Crimson Tide added No. 2 QB-PP David Cornwell (Norman, Okla./North), the Wildcats secured in-state No. 6 QB-PP Drew Barker (Hebron, Ky./Conner) and the Bulldogs snared two-sport start Elijah Staley (Marietta, Ga./Wheeler).

Harris is SMU's 14th verbal for 2014.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The final audition is here, and the spotlights are bright for a prospect who wants to become Alabama’s next quarterback. It’s the last chance for several 2014 prospects to the throw in front of Nick Saban and his staff in hopes of earning that illustrious committable offer. QB Harris determined to reach Elite 11

BUFORD, Ga. -- ESPN Watch List quarterback Tyler Harris (Blackshear, Ga./Pierce County) competed in the Elite 11 Atlanta regional on Saturday, showing his trademark velocity despite the windy conditions. Toward the end of the camp he was placed in the second group, but after hitting the mark on some tough throws, Harris was promoted to the first group, which contained the day’s top performers.

Despite outperforming more than 50 other quarterbacks and making the final group, Harris will not rest until he picks up an invitation to the Elite 11 competition.

Lessons Learned: Atlanta Elite 11

Five stories to watch: Atlanta NFTC

Stop six of 13 for the NFTC will take place Saturday at Buford (Ga.) High School in the Northwest sector of metropolitan Atlanta, and this event will not be short on star power. More than 300 prospects representing 20 states are expected to come out and compete, over 90 of which claim offers from FBS programs. Here are five storylines to watch at the Atlanta NFTC.

Will Lorenzo Carter emerge as the top pass-rusher in the Southeast?

Based on his junior season alone, Lorenzo Carter (Norcross, Ga./Norcross) put his name is on the map as one of the best in the country off the edge. The 6-foot-6, 230-pound defensive end helped lead Norcross to its first state championship last fall, racking up 136 tackles, 45 tackles for losses and 18 sacks in Georgia’s highest classification. More than 30 programs have offered a scholarship to Carter, and he plans to showcase just why he is so coveted this weekend.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- When it comes to recruiting quarterbacks at the University of Alabama, it’s more like trying out for the school play.

The signup sheet is the Crimson Tide’s coaches scouring for prospects, tirelessly reviewing film and the, ultimately, choosing a handful of players to bring in for auditions.

So far, four signal callers -- David Cornwell (Norman, Okla./North), Tyler Harris (Blackshear, Ga./Pierce County), DeShone Kizer (Toledo, Ohio, Central Catholic) and Jacob Park (Goose Creek, S.C./Stratford) -- have made the cut. All four have earned scholarship offers from Alabama.

The first was Cornwell, an ESPN Watch List member. He initially discovered he was offered from head coach Nick Saban at the Tide’s first junior day in January. This week, he called back to confirm it.

“I kind of knew I had it, but I just wanted to confirm it,” Cornwell said. “That’s what Coach Saban did -- he confirmed it for me. It was just really cool to talk with him, a guy in such a high position and at the top of his profession.”

Harris picked up his offer three weeks later. It was his first.

Mark Richt 7-on-7, Day 1

ATHENS, Ga. – On the first day of the Mark Richt 7-on-7 camp, a bevy of top players hit the University of Georgia intramural fields to win the double-elimination tournament. Almost the entire Bulldogs coaching staff was present, shaking hands, catching up and most importantly, evaluating the talent on the field.

Assistant head coach Rodney Garner and offensive line coach Will Friend held a lineman’s camp in the morning so the big uglies could learn a trick or two as well as try to impress the Georgia staff.

With almost 20 schools in attendance it was hard to be everywhere, but here are five players who stood out on the first day:
