NCF On The Trail: Tanner Farmer

OT Gates commits to Nebraska

January, 24, 2014
Nebraska added a big piece to its offensive line haul in the 2014 recruiting class on Friday as three-star offensive tackle Nick Gates (Las Vegas/Bishop Gorman) committed to the Cornhuskers.

The 6-foot-4, 272-pound tackle held offers from a number of national programs before narrowing his list down to Arizona, Nebraska, Oregon and Texas A&M late in the process. In early January, Gates said he wouldn't wait until signing day to announce a decision, instead giving the head coaches of those four programs an opportunity to use their in-home visits to seal the deal.

Gates said Nebraska head coach Bo Pelini visited the Gates family last Tuesday, along with associate head coach Barney Cotton and offensive line coach John Garrison. The three men were tasked with performing an in-home visit in front of 12 members of the Gates family, and according to the big offensive tackle, everything went perfectly.
