Early summer interest has turned into a full commitment for the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Back in June, Iowa brought an offer to three-star inside linebacker Aaron Mends (Kansas City, Mo./Winnetonka). Two months later, the 6-foot-1, 204-pound senior became the 12th commitment in the 2014 class for the Hawkeyes, choosing Iowa over Iowa State.

The addition of Mends shows just how serious coach Kirk Ferentz is about filling the middle of the Hawkeyes’ defense.

Paramus (N.J.) Catholic defensive end Terrence Harris has never visited Iowa. No big deal, he says.

Harris became the 11th commitment of the Hawkeyes' 2014 class Tuesday.

"Tradition and the staff," are the reasons he pledged to Iowa, Harris wrote in a text message.

Iowa has been a leader for Harris since the coaches offered in the spring, but Harris has yet to make it to campus. He said he will visit Oct. 5. The 6-foot-2, 250-pound lineman also held offers from UMass and Troy.

Harris is the latest in a trend of New Jersey products heading to Iowa City. Jameer Outsey committed to Iowa in June and Quinton Alston and Akrum Wadley are both at Iowa by way of the Garden State.
