When coach James Franklin left Vanderbilt for Penn State, running back Mikale Wilbon (Chicago/DeLaSalle) decommitted from the Commodores to take a step back.

The three-star back was offered by Nebraska shortly after his decommitment, took a visit on Jan. 17 and committed to the Cornhuskers on Sunday night.

At 5-foot-9, 190 pounds, Wilbon is a compact but strong back who will fare well in the Nebraska offense. He has speed and power that will give the coaching staff some options as far as how he is used on the field.

This commitment gives Nebraska 22 commitments, three of whom have come in the past two days. Wilbon is also the third running back commit in this class.

Current Nebraska running back Ameer Abdullah chose to return to school for another season, so that will allow the coaching staff some time to develop the younger backs and figure out who can do what within the offense.

Nebraska now has four commitments ranked as four-stars, including one ESPN 300 commitment, and 18 three-stars for this cycle.
Signing day is inching closer and closer, which means there are questions out there. The Big Ten has plenty of top targets remaining.

Here are five things to watch within the conference as signing day approaches:

We are almost out of the dead period, which ends on Jan. 15. That means things are starting to heat up for Big Ten teams on the recruiting trail. Here is a look at what happened throughout the conference this past week.

Biggest commitment:
Indiana landed ESPN 300 receiver Dominique Booth (Indianapolis/Pike), when he announced his decision on Jan. 7. Booth had been committed to Tennessee, but he decommitted and will now enroll early for the Hoosiers.

He is a big pickup for the Indiana offense and is a high ranking in-state prospect who coach Kevin Wilson and his staff are keeping home.

Nebraska also secured a wide receiver with Jariah Tolbert (New Orleans/Edna Karr) on Thursday. Tolbert joined his teammate, athlete Jaevon Walton, in Nebraska’s 2014 class.

RN Top 10: Chicago NFTC

The RN Top 10 will appear throughout the camp and combine season and rank prospects based strictly on their on-field performance at that particular event. It does not reflect what their overall prospect ranking will be when the 2014 rankings are unveiled this spring.

ADDISON, Ill. -- The Chicago NFTC did not disappoint when it came to top talent. The Midwest showcased some very good looking talent across the board and all the way down to the 2016 class. The camp produced seven invitations to The Opening and one Elite 11 invitation.

10. Kyron Watson
East St. Louis (Ill.) East St. Louis | LB | 6-1, 210

Watson has started to see his stock rise recently, with offers coming in from Michigan, Kansas, Missouri, Minnesota, Purdue, Syracuse and TCU.

The No. 100 ranked player in the country isn't the biggest guy on the field, but his highlight tape shows that doesn't matter. He loves to hit and loves contact, which is a necessity at the linebacker spot.

He says his top two are currently Michigan and Kansas and he plans to visit Michigan on May 20.

NFTC linebacker coach Chris Gizzi on Watson: "Twitchy type guy. If anything he would be like a WILL. You talk about a football player and an inquisitive guy, a guy that asks the right questions and very football smart type player. He got better as the day went on."

ADDISON, Ill. -- The most recent stop on the 2013 Nike Football Training Camp schedule was just outside of Chicago, and The Windy City swept out plenty of talent on Sunday. The competition in the trenches and the depth at wide receiver was the best the 2013 cycle, making the day especially interesting all around.

RecruitingNation writer Chantel Jennings attended the camp. Here’s what she learned:

Chicago De La Salle running back Mikale Wilbon was careful not to name a leader, but he said one team sticks out as having the best résumé among his double-digit offers.

“Everybody is the same but as far as résumés and what schools have to offer, probably Vanderbilt is the best because it's ranked in the Top 25 in education, football and recruiting and that’s the only school,” Wilbon said of his 11 offers. “Vanderbilt is looking good right now, but they’re not leading, though.”

Arizona, Arizona State, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Maryland, Mississippi State and Purdue are Wilbon’s other offers.

Mikale Wilbon (Chicago/De La Salle) looked at Indiana as just another school when it recently offered. It isn’t that Wilbon has already become jaded to the recruiting process, but for several BCS-level recruits, an offer from Indiana doesn’t move the needle.

Or at least that was the case.
