Kentucky is not building a pipeline into Ohio. It is already firmly established.

Mark Stoops has been on the job just six months, but the Ohio native already has a strong tie to the Buckeye State when it comes to recruiting. He landed his sixth commitment from Ohio in the 2014 class Saturday when three-star guard Jarrett LaRubbio (Liberty Township, Ohio/Lakota East) pledged to Kentucky.

"I felt comfortable there with the coaches," LaRubbio said. "It's the chance to play against the best in the SEC and do something that's never been done before," LaRubbio said.

LaRubbio, the third highest-ranked commit in the Wildcats' eight-man class, chose Kentucky over offers from the likes of Nebraska, Vanderbilt, Washington and Wisconsin. LaRubbio was in Lexington visiting when he committed.

LaRubbio, ranked No. 23 in Ohio, joins fellow Ohio natives Thaddeus Snodgrass (No. 5 in Ohio), Mikel Horton, Darryl Long, Tymere Dubose, and Dorian Hendrix in Kentucky's class. LaRubbio is No. 28 among guards nationally.
Twenty-two offers are in for Jarrett LaRubbio (Liberty Township, Ohio/Lakota East). The 23rd-ranked player in Ohio is hoping offer No. 23 is his biggest yet.

Two programs the three-star offensive guard believes could offer soon are Notre Dame and Oregon.

Like so many prospects have begun to do, Jarrett LaRubbio (Liberty Township, Ohio/Lakota East) wants to make a decision before his senior season. A major factor in his commitment will be how each head coach runs his practices, so LaRubbio is spending much of the next few weeks on the road.

“I want to get a lot of [visits] done so I can watch spring practice,” LaRubbio said. “I like watching and I think it’s a big part.”

The offensive guard has 16 offers, but his most recent spring practice visit went to Ohio State, which has not offered the 6-foot-5, 260-pound LaRubbio yet. It was his first time visiting the in-state Buckeyes.

Jarrett LaRubbio (Liberty Township, Ohio/Lakota East) has visited Pittsburgh three times now, and he has seen something different on each of those visits.

Jarrett LaRubbio (Liberty Township, Ohio/Lakota East) arrived late to Beaver Stadium thanks to the snarling traffic, so he wasn't able to stroll the sideline or shake the coaches' hands before the game.

Still, the 2014 offensive guard said his first step inside Beaver Stadium made the long trip worthwhile.

"All I saw was people dressed in white," he said, his tone growing more excited. "You can look around and around, and it almost makes you feel light-headed how many people are there. That'll stick with me.
