Nationally (and SEC)
Tennessee went into the 2014 class with a gigantic future need at running back, and coach Butch Jones and staff delivered for Volunteers fans in a big way. The Vols' running back haul includes not only ESPN 300 backs Jalen Hurd (Hendersonville, Tenn./Beech) and Derrell Scott (Havelock, N.C./Havelock) but also four-star Treyvon Paulk (Alpharetta, Ga./Milton). With different body types, styles and strengths, Tennessee added talent and depth for years to come as well as many different skill sets within the position. Hurd is tall, lean and chock-full of speed, athleticism and versatility, and Scott is a slasher with excellent ball skills out of the backfield. Paulk is a compact, downhill back with leg drive and power.

The Volunteers had the nation's best RB class; here's which schools had the best in each of the remaining power conferences:

Michigan and Ohio State both sit in the top 10 recruiting rankings this year after each landed top 10 classes in 2013 -- the Buckeyes were third, while the Wolverines were sixth.

That's why it should come as no surprise that the two schools have the top four recruiters in the Big Ten Conference for the Class of 2014 so far.

Here's a look at the top 10 recruiters in the Big Ten and why they deserve such high praise:

Northwestern, enjoying arguably one of its better recruiting classes in years, has been consistent in landing players from Texas this year. The Wildcats picked up another Lone Star State commitment Monday afternoon, its third of the 2014 class.

Three-star defensive end/outside linebacker hybrid Noah Westerfield (Frisco, Texas/Wakeland) became the Wildcats’ 13th overall commitment. A 6-foot-3, 215-pound hybrid defender, Westerfield chose Northwestern over SMU, Wake Forest, Duke and Boise State and rising interest from TCU.

It’s been a relatively quiet summer for Northwestern running back commit Auston Anderson (Plano, Texas/Plano West). After committing to the Wildcats on May 9, Anderson’s been in the weight room and on the field working toward his senior season and, ultimately, life in the Big Ten.

Since his commitment, however, there have been many who still scratch their heads. Anderson, a high three-star running back, had offers from Nebraska, Stanford, Arkansas, Washington and several other heavyweights in college football. Locally, Anderson had a chance to play close to home with Big 12 offers from Texas, Texas Tech, Baylor and TCU.

On Sunday, Anderson addressed those with questions and reconfirmed his commitment to Northwestern. He is one of three running backs to commit to the Wildcats in the 2014 class, but he said he doesn’t plan on finding a new home.

Northwestern dips into Texas for another

Running back Auston Anderson (Plano, Texas/West) committed Thursday to sign with the Northwestern Wildcats, multiple sources report. He is the second 2014 prospect from the Lone Star State to pick NU for 2014. Three-star safety Jordan Thomas (Klein, Texas/Collins) got the Wildcats' class started with his decision in December.

The 5-foot-9, 180-pound Anderson selected Northwestern over scholarship offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Arkansas, Baylor, California, Georgia Tech, Navy, Nebraska, Rice, Stanford, TCU, Texas, Texas Tech, UCLA, Washington and Washington State.

ESPN believes that he possesses, "a sneaky extra gear... good feel as a zone runner... the ability to exploit smaller creases... very good balance and body control... naturally good leverage and a strong lower base."

Anderson, along with Northwestern's other ungraded commitments, will be included as part of ESPN's next rankings update. The Wildcats have eight verbals at this time.

Running back Auston Anderson (Plano, Texas/Plano West) is inching closer to 20 offers. He’s a player who rushed for 1,156 yards and 13 touchdowns -- all while sharing the rushing load with 2015 running back Soso Jamabo and 2013 quarterback Travis Korry -- and he’s someone looking to show last year was just the start of something spectacular.
