High three-star safety Anthony Davis (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) joined Temple's Class of 2014, according to multiple reports.

The Owls topped Boston College, Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Connecticut, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Maryland, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Texas Tech, Toledo, Vanderbilt and Virginia Tech, all of which offered, for Davis' commitment.

He is now Temple's highest-rated pledge. Nine of the 14 Owls commitments have been evaluated by ESPN RecruitingNation, with all nine players receiving three-star grades.

Anthony Davis (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) found himself sitting over his mother's lasagna dinner last Friday and focusing on the pros and cons of different schools. He's been doing a lot of that lately.

With no head coach yet in place at Gateway, the defensive back with 18 offers has been forced to virtually shoulder the entire recruiting burden along with his parents. But it's not necessarily the stress that's getting to Davis, it's the uncertainties.

"It was laid back for awhile," he said. "But now we don't have a coach, so my parents are pushing me more into making a decision and talking about the positives and negatives in case we don't have a good season because we don't have a coach right here."

Anthony Davis (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) has more than a dozen offers, and he has not started naming favorites yet. He does know one thing about his future school, however: It will not be close to home.

Anthony Davis could feel his heart beating faster. He admitted he was a little nervous because he thought he might grab a scholarship offer -- but he didn't want to jump to conclusions.

Bill O'Brien ushered the Monroeville (Pa.) Gateway prospect inside his office during Saturday's junior day. Davis first looked past the office's open blinds at the rolling mountains. He and his father took a seat on a white couch, while the AT&T ESPN Coach of the Year told them to make themselves comfortable. The recruit leaned back and tried his best.

Coming into his junior season, Anthony Davis (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) was under the radar as he missed the summer camp circuit because of a foot injury. He was a player his coaches raved about, however, and a productive 2012 season has him on the radar of several programs.

MONROEVILLE, Pa. -- Through two games, Gateway High School has made a statement by outscoring opponents 107-22. Gators coach Terry Smith can thank a talented 2013 and 2014 class for helping get Gateway back to the top of the WPIAL’s toughest group, AAAA.

I spent an entire afternoon with the Gateway team last week, and here are some names to keep an eye on between now and February 2014.

Mileak Ford, TE, 2013: Ford is hoping to land an offer from either Pittsburgh or Northwestern, but if he does not, he could end up at an Ivy League program. Northwestern wants to see his midseason senior film.
