NCF On The Trail: 112413-recruit-reaction

The Pac-12 conference was all but officially shut out of the national championship discussion this weekend, but that won't dampen the spirits of the program that caused the dismissal -- Arizona -- or the one that will benefit most from it -- Arizona State.

This was Clemson’s big official visit weekend for the 2014 class, but it was a 2015 recruit who stole the headlines in Death Valley at least for a few hours.

Forget school affiliation for a minute. What Oklahoma State did Saturday night against Baylor was the kind of performance that will put a smile on the face of anyone who has lined up on the defensive side of the football.

Baylor entered Saturday's Big 12 clash against the Cowboys averaging 61.2 points and 684.8 yards per game. But the nation's No. 4 team ran into a defensive buzzsaw and was dominated, 49-17, in front of a raucous Boone Pickens Stadium crowd.

For nearly 46 minutes, No. 10 Oklahoma State held Baylor without a touchdown. Entering the fourth quarter, the Cowboys held a 35-3 lead over a Baylor team that has scored 70 points four times this year.

It was one of Glenn Spencer's finest moments in his first season as the Cowboys' defensive coordinator. It was also a moment that several Oklahoma State commits -- particularly the defensive pledges -- shared with their future team.

Ohio State rolled on in its undefeated season, winning 42-14 over Indiana on Saturday. Every home game has been a good game to have recruits, since this team hasn’t lost, and this weekend was no different.

The Buckeyes hosted quite a few important visits, but most came from the 2015 class.

One of the remaining targets in the 2014 class, juco offensive lineman Chad Mavety (Garden City, N.Y./Nassau Community College), took his official visit to Ohio State for the Indiana game and was excited for what he was going to see.

Mavety planned on leaving on Sunday afternoon, but said going into the visit he wasn’t expecting to commit this weekend, or make a decision while on the trip.
