UA Game jersey tour: Thomas Holley
By Gerry Hamilton
Defensive tackle Thomas Holley (Brooklyn, N.Y./Lincoln) was presented his honorary game jersey during the American Family Insurance Selection Tour for the 2014 Under Armour All-America Game at Lincoln High School Tuesday.
Holley, who has officially visited Penn State and Ohio State, is one of 90 players selected to compete in the seventh-annual Under Armour All-America Game on Jan. 2 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla.
“It’s definitely an honor to be a part of a wonderful event,” Holley said. “… All the hard work that [Lincoln head coach Shawn O’Connor] and the whole Lincoln coaching staff has put in to put me in a position to be an Under Armour All-American…I want to thank them very much,”
O’Connor says his star player has two key traits that have made him a dominant player.
“The key to his development has been his determination. He’s determined to learn the game, and he’s got tremendous speed and takeoff on the field. And he never gives up on a play, and with that speed, being 6-4 and 300 pounds, he can run a running back down from behind and make those pounding hits count and add up in a game.”
For Holley, the game offers the chance to compete and bond with other top players.
"I decided to accept the invitation to the Under Armour All-America Game because it's a wonderful opportunity to be a part of something so great, and to have the opportunity to play against some of the best players in the country,” Holley said. “… Just building relationships and having the chance to play against the best of the best in the country…you can’t really ask for more than that.”
Holley is the No. 86-ranked prospect in the ESPN 300, and the No. 8 defensive tackle in the class. He is considering Syracuse, Notre Dame and Florida along with the Nittany Lions and Buckeyes.
