Early favorite for three-star DE Hayes
By Damon Sayles
Three months ago, Silvester Hayes (Dallas/South Oak Cliff) was looking for his first offer. Now, the three-star defensive end is balancing 14 offers and could have a few more this summer.
Hayes’ first offer came from Texas Tech in February. The big question: Will the first to offer be the school Hayes commits to?
“Right now, I’m leaning toward Texas Tech,” Hayes said. “They were the first to offer and the first to open the door for me to get the other offers. I’m probably not going to decide anything until maybe after the season. I’m just keeping my options open for now.”
In addition to Texas Tech, Hayes has offers from Iowa, Iowa State, Utah, Northern Illinois and others. He also has interest from Baylor, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas and Texas A&M.
Hayes, at 6-foot-3 and 214 pounds, has the build and speed of an outside linebacker and can be a hybrid defensive end/linebacker at the next level. He finished his junior year with eight sacks.
While Texas Tech is in front, Hayes said that he’s looking into unofficial visits to Oklahoma State and Iowa. Hayes also said he wants to go to Lubbock, Texas, to take in the Texas Tech campus.
“It’s the coaching staff there,” Hayes said of Texas Tech. “When I talk to each and every one of them, it feels like family. It’s something I can be around.”
Hayes is ranked No. 47 among defensive ends nationally.
