Gresham has top six, sets two visits
By Damon Sayles
It’s been a little over two weeks since Daniel Gresham (Fort Worth, Texas/All Saints Episcopal) decided Texas wasn’t the place for him. Now, the nation’s No. 2 fullback is inching closer to finalizing where his new home will be.
Gresham on Monday announced his top six via social media. The 5-foot-10, 236-pound back said, in alphabetical order, that Alabama, Arkansas, Florida State, Miami (Fla.), Missouri and Ole Miss all made the cut. When asked how difficult it was to narrow the list from the 13 previous offers, Gresham simply responded, “Extremely.”
Gresham said his top six features schools that are highly competitive in their respective conferences and schools where he can compete for a starting role early. Gresham added that he liked what each school offered academically.
“Also, the fanbases showed me a ton of love,” Gresham said, “The schools’ fans show how passionate they are about their schools. I want to be a part of that.”
Considered a fullback, Gresham was All Saints’ leading rusher during the 2012 season. He rushed for 881 yards and 17 touchdowns and averaged better than 11 yards per carry.
Gresham now will focus on taking in upcoming visits. He said he will visit Miami on June 2 and Ole Miss on June 7 in an effort to further narrow his choices down.
As for Texas, while Gresham never planned on decommitting, he feels his decision has been a blessing in disguise.
“I made my decision too early and felt terrible for reneging on my commitment,” Gresham said, “but it’s been a blessing, also. The Lord had blessed me with a ton of options.”
