In just the past few days, Sturghill claims scholarship offers from UCLA, Arkansas State, Middle Tennessee State, Purdue and Western Kentucky. The receiver from Memphis (Tenn.) Melrose already held scholarship offers from Vanderbilt and Mississippi State.
"My top five schools right now at the moment are Vanderbilt, UCLA, Western Kentucky, Arkansas state and MTSU, but Mississippi State, Ohio State, Tennessee, Ole Miss, and Memphis have been in contact often," the 5-foot-11, 167-pound prospect said.
UCLA's continued recruiting in Memphis is intriguing. Despite being nearly 2,000 miles away, the Bruins have had success in the River City. UCLA signed offensive tackle Christian Morris from Memphis (Tenn.) East in February.
UCLA has targeted a handful of other Tennessee prospects, including receiver Josh Malone from Gallatin (Tenn.) Station Camp, and linebacker Petera Wilson from Memphis (Tenn.) White Station. Competition will be tough for both. They each have dozens of scholarship offers.
Travel plays in UCLA's favor. There are direct flights from Memphis and Nashville to Los Angeles.
