Three showing strong interest in Davis
By Brad Bournival
At 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds and with hands the size of masonry bricks, it’s easy to see that Jamal Davis II (Canton, Ohio/McKinley) has some growing to do.
With an uncle that’s 6-8, the junior outside linebacker is projected to reach 6-4 and fill out to 245 pounds.
That has schools such as Bowling Green, Kent State, Louisville, Michigan, Michigan State and Oklahoma State drooling.
The Falcons, Golden Flashes and Cardinals have all offered him as well as Buffalo, Toledo and Western Michigan.
But there are three schools coming around that seem to have Davis’ attention at the moment.
The junior has seen Michigan, Michigan State and Louisville and wants to see them again as well as maybe taking a trip out to Oklahoma State.
Here’s what Davis said about the Wolverines, Spartans and Cardinals:
Louisville: “They’re up there. I would say the chemistry is real good between me and Coach [Charlie] Strong. He’s always hitting me up on Facebook and so are the assistant coaches. They’re all keeping in contact with me.”
Michigan: “I went up there this spring. The last time I was up there I talked to defensive coordinator [Greg Mattison] and he said he likes my size. He likes me a lot.”
Michigan State: “I talk to [former teammate] Jermaine Edmondson a lot. When I was a sophomore we were tight. He introduced me to all of this recruiting stuff. I really look up to him. When I go up there, I’m really going to look into things.”
As of now, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Louisville, Michigan, Kent State and Toledo have all checked in with the junior standout.
In the summer he plans to camp at Michigan, Michigan State and Oklahoma State.
Last season, Davis recorded 68 tackles -- 11 for loss -- and had three sacks.
