Notre Dame picks up seventh commit
By Chantel Jennings
Tight end Nic Weishar of Chicago Marist committed to Notre Dame Tuesday evening. The 2014 prospect told ESPN's RecruitingNation in a text message that he chose the Fighting Irish over offers from Ohio State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Tennessee and several others.
Weishar -- the No. 7 tight end in the country -- is Notre Dame’s seventh commit in the 2014 class, but the first tight end commitment. As the No. 7 tight end in the country, he is the top player positionally the Fighting Irish have landed (defensive end Andrew Trumbetti is their highest ranked commit overall).
At 6-foot-5, 210 pounds Weishar is a smaller tight end but has a history in basketball and as an offensive lineman, so he can both be a pass-catching tight end as well as someone who can block down field.
As a junior, Weishar accounted for five touchdowns and 1,100 yards on 89 carries.
