RB Hood rethinking top group
By Tom VanHaaren
Running back Elijah Hood (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Catholic) had his list narrowed dow to Notre Dame, Michigan and Ohio State and seemed destined to head North. That changed recently, though, as Hood and his family have been talking about his future plans.
"I'm talking with my family and probably going to have to reconsider some of my schools," he said. "Just the ones further away. I kind of want to stay close to home I believe."
Hood says the decision is difficult and that he isn't completely closing off the schools to the North, just that he will give a higher percentage to schools closer to him. The choice had a lot of thought behind it and was fueled by family bond.
"Family is really important to me and I kind of forget that sometimes. This time is going to be the last time I'll really be around them and I have certain family and friends who are older," he said. "It would mean the world for them to watch me in person because I don't know how long they'll be around. My family doesn't have the funds to make really long trips and it will make me happy to play closer to home."
Hood says he understands that eventually he will have to move away from home, but that won't be until later in life when he is more prepared.
He has plenty of options outside of the three previously making up his top list, including offers from Clemson, Florida State, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia Tech among others. Hood isn't yet positive of what schools will make up his new list, but he has a few in mind.
"I'm looking around, but North Carolina, Virginia Tech and Georgia are a few schools I'm looking at right now," he said. "If nothing close to home fits me then I will just have to make the move further away."
