Watch List RB committed, but remains open
By Derek Tyson
MIAMI -- Watch List running back and Clemson verbal commitment Dalvin Cook (Miami/Central) was one of the most impressive performers at the Miami NFTC on Sunday. The 5-foot-11, 187-pound athlete's impressive performance was enough to get invited to The Opening in Beaverton, Ore., in July.
Cook, who has been committed to Clemson since June, said that though he remains committed, that his recruitment isn't necessarily over.
"My commitment is solid right now," he said, "but I'm keeping some options open."
Cook admits he has felt some pressure from friends and teammates to go to Miami (Fla) since it is the hometown team. For Cook, though, he has already built a strong relationship with the Miami coaches.
"All the guys talk about Miami a lot," he said. "But I have a great bond withe coaches already. We talk on a daily basis with them being in the backyard. They play a lot of younger guys -- guys that I talk to every day."
In addition to Miami, Cook said two other schools are standing out to him.
"[Florida] and USC are just a great fit for my type of running style and the things I'm trying to accomplish in my college in my career," Cook said. "I have a great relationship with T-Rob (Florida defensive backs coach Travaris Robinson). We have like a brother type of relationship. When he comes down here, he checks on me and checks up on my family and things like that.
"With USC, they just offered me. USC was just one of those schools that, when I was younger, I said I wanted to go there."
What will it take for a school to get him to switch his commitment from Clemson?
"Just keep recruiting me," he said. "Keep checking in on me and keep staying in touch, things like that."
