Two on top for Watch List OL McDermott
By Derek Tyson
MIAMI -- Offensive tackle K.C. McDermott (Wellington, Fla./Palm Beach Central) was one of the top offensive linemen at the Miami NFTC on Sunday. The 6-foot-6, 274-pound tackle prospect is being recruited by major programs from all over the country, but two schools have separated them from the rest.
"I like Miami and Notre Dame," McDermott said. "Notre Dame is a great school, Coach [Brian] Kelly has turned that whole program around. Notre Dame was my grandfather's favorite school. He bled gold and blue."
McDermott's older brother, Tyler McDermott, a former offensive lineman for Colorado State, was recently added as a graduate assistant at Notre Dame. The younger McDermott insists that won't influence his decision. In fact, he said his older brother hasn't talked to him at all about going to Notre Dame.
Like Notre Dame, McDermott also has family ties to Miami, but the Watch List prospect said his relationship with the Miami coaches will influence him more than his family could.
"Miami, it's Miami," he said. "It's my family's school, but I like it a lot. I like what Coach [Al] Golden and the coaching staff are doing down there."
As for upcoming plans, McDmermott said he will check out both schools over his spring break.
"I'm going to visit Notre Dame on my spring break at the end of March," he said. "The day I get back from Notre Dame, I'll go see a spring practice at Miami. I'll make a decision shortly after that."
