Connections mean a lot to Taylor
By Dave Hooker
An old connection has Garrett Taylor thinking about the Big 12.
Taylor picked up a scholarship offer from Iowa State late Thursday. While the school is a bit far from Taylor, who is from Richmond (Va.) St. Christopher, the cornerback is giving the offer some strong consideration.
Why? Because the sophomore knows a coach at Iowa State very well. Hawkeye defensive assistant coach Jim Reid recruited Taylor while a coach at Virginia.
"I love Coach Reid," the 6-foot-1, 187-pound Taylor said. "He's a really good coach. I just like what he's about and he is really straight forward. I'm glad I got back in touch with him."
Don't consider Taylor to be Ames-bound just yet. He still has a lot to learn about Iowa State.
"Not much," the 2015 prospect said when asked what he knows about the Cyclones. "I just know Coach Reid from UVA is there and they do a good job of putting players in the NFL."
It didn't take long for Reid to extol the virtues of Taylor to his new co-workers. Reid was just hired by Iowa State last month.
"He showed my film to the Iowa State staff and they liked it," Taylor said.
Taylor also has scholarship offers from North Carolina, Ole Miss, Iowa, Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia and Virginia Tech. Several other schools have shown strong interest.
