Arkansas' Bielema offers Badgers commit
By Jared Shanker
Bret Bielema was not thrilled when his prospects were poached while he was coaching at Wisconsin. He did not want to see the Big Ten become the SEC.
On Tuesday, the new Arkansas coach extended an offer to guard George Panos (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead), who is committed to Wisconsin. He’s been pledged to the Badgers for 10 months, committing when Bielema was coach.
“He talked to me about how special of a place Arkansas is and the opportunity I have to be great there,” said Panos, who spoke with Bielema on Tuesday.
Panos now has six offers with Arkansas and Minnesota the latest to tender scholarships. He wants to check out both schools soon.
He remains committed to Wisconsin, but Arkansas surged up Panos’ list of schools he is interested in.
“I’m still committed for sure, but they are my No. 2 school,” he said.
Watch List offensive tackle Jaden Gault (Monona, Wis./Monona Grove) is the Badgers’ other 2014 offensive line commitment, and he was just offered by Tennessee. Former 2014 commit Craig Evans (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) added offers from Arkansas and fellow SEC West program Ole Miss recently, too, so the SEC is still making a run at the Badgers’ class.
