Wrestling champion commits to BYU
Junior Zac Dawe (Pleasant Grove, Utah/Pleasant Grove), who recently won the Class 5A State wrestling championship, has committed to play football for Brigham Young, according to the Deseret News.
Utah and Utah State also recruited the 6-foot-4, 265-pound defensive lineman, but the Cougars were the only school to step up and offer at this early stage.
“The word I’d used to describe coach [Bronco] Mendenhall would be ‘amazing,’ ” he said. “I love how he talks to you and focuses on the most important things -- it’s not just about football, and I know he has my best interest in mind in everything on and off the football field.”
Dawe plans to complete an LDS mission after graduating from high school. His older brother, Parker, is a 6-4, 270-pound prospect headed to BYU this fall as a walk-on offensive lineman.
