Ohio junior LB a big fan of citrus
By Brad Bournival
Chris Frey Jr. (Upper Arlington, Ohio/Upper Arlington) is looking to squeeze the Orange soon.
With offers from Akron, Bowling Green, Kent State, Northern Illinois and Toledo already in tow, the 6-foot-2, 214-pound junior linebacker also has one from Syracuse.
It’s that last offer that has him dreaming of a trip to New York.
“I think it’s a big offer for me,” Frey said. “It was my third or fourth offer and it was awesome.
“The coach that offered me is now in the NFL. I’ve been talking to Coach [Clark] Lea, who is the new linebackers coach. I want to get up there and see how everything plays out.”
After posting a 100.20 rating at Saturday's Nike SPARQ Combine in Massillon, Ohio, Frey’s plate is full.
He visited Bowling Green after the combine, will head to North Carolina next week -- he has interest from NC State -- and will visit Tennessee and Michigan State for spring practices.
Frey is also looking to build off of a junior season where he made 156 tackles, forced four fumbles and recorded six sacks.
“I started games my sophomore season and am coming off of a season where I led the team in tackles,” Frey said. “I wanted to come out here and see how I stacked up against the guys, just see how I’d do.”
