Purdue gets defensive lineman's pledge
By Jared Shanker
Purdue coach Darrell Hazell picked up a commitment from an offensive lineman Saturday. On Sunday, it was the defensive line's turn.
As he said he likely would, defensive tackle Johnny Daniels (Chicago/Foreman) committed while on his official visit to Purdue this weekend.
"I was looking for a school where I could grow as a great athlete, a great student and most of all an outstanding man," he said.
Northern Illinois also offered Daniels, who stands 6-foot-5 and weighs 244 pounds. A little underweight for a defensive tackle now, Daniels said the plan is to have him bulk up, but the staff does not want him to lose his explosion, which is what caught Hazell's attention in the first place.
"How fast I could move for my size, how disruptive I am and how big I'm going to be with the right training and nutrition," Daniels said are all the things the Boilermakers told him they covet.
Daniels marks the fourth commitment since Friday for the Boilermakers.
