2014 WR/DB chooses Toledo over Big Ten
By Chantel Jennings
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Toledo got a strong start to its 2014 class on Saturday when it picked up its first commit -- a prospect with a Big Ten offer who chose the Rockets following a junior day visit.
Timothy Cason II (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) chose Toledo over offers Michigan State and Bowling Green. The 6-foot, 178-pound receiver also had interest from Wisconsin, Nebraska and Indiana but felt at home in Toledo and decided to pull the trigger.
“Coming in I just thought it was going to be another junior day,” Cason said. “But coach [Matt Campbell] came in and made me feel at home.”
Cason is the Rockets' first commit in the 2014 class. He plays both receiver and defensive back for Clarkston, but Campbell said the Rockets prefer him at CB but they could use him as an athlete at the next level, giving him the possibility to play offense or defense.
The Rockets offered Cason following his sophomore season, so Cason has had the opportunity to see the campus for camps and games before and had already gotten to know the coaches, which helped in making him feel so comfortable on Saturday.
“I went to Toledo and all the coaches they talked to me, joked around and I had such a great time,” Cason said. “I thought, ‘Why waste my time when I feel like this is home?' ”
