DB Lewis' future with Cowboys at 'steak'
By Brandon Chatmon
Oklahoma State has had different coaching changes in recent weeks with inside receivers coach Doug Meacham leaving for Houston and linebackers coach Glenn Spencer replacing Bill Young as the Cowboys defensive coordinator.
Both changes have impacted defensive back Taylor Lewis (Desoto, Texas/Desoto), a current Cowboys commit.
But Lewis remains steadfast in his plan to play for Oklahoma State. Why?
There are several reasons, but one particular asset to the program tops the list after Lewis visit to Stillwater, Okla., this weekend.
“The food was real good,” he said. “We ate well, every course of the day. I feel like that is going to help me out a lot.”
“The chicken fried steak; it really set me off,” Lewis said. “I had that on Friday. It was real good.”
It was Lewis’ third time in Stillwater, and this was his one official visit. He was hosted by Cowboys cornerback Miketavious Jones. The combination of OSU’s training table and weight room makes Lewis confident he can reach his potential in Stillwater.
“The weight room has so many different workouts and things that are going to help us be the best and do things the correct way,” he said. “Instead of just trying to bench press all day.”
Lewis was recruited by Meacham before he left for Houston, and cornerbacks coach Jason Jones took over.
“My favorite thing about Coach Jones is whatever point he’s trying to get across, he explains in great detail,” said Lewis, who also has an offer from Kansas.
And Spencer’s promotion to defensive coordinator seems unlikely to have a negative impact on Lewis future. In fact, Spencer seems to be a fan of the 6-foot, 174-pound cornerback prospect.
“We were inside the locker room and he pulled me aside,” Lewis said of Spencer. “He told me he really enjoys me being here and he likes the fact I go hard every play and I do things that can really help them.”
His official visit left no doubt he wants to play at OSU.
“It was wonderful,’ Lewis said. “The hospitality really set me over. I enjoyed that.”
