LB Robinson makes his commitment

By Jared Shanker

Lavonte Robinson (Lakewood, Ohio/St. Edward) was looking at this weekend as a time to make a decision. After visiting the three schools showing interest, Robinson did come to that decision.

Robinson committed to Eastern Michigan over Ohio Dominican on Sunday. He was hoping for an Iowa offer following a December official visit, but the Hawkeyes never tendered a scholarship to the inside linebacker.

Despite Robinson’s flirtation with Iowa, Eastern Michigan never backed off the 5-foot-11, 225-pound linebacker.

“They stuck with me throughout the whole recruiting process even when they knew I was going to Iowa and Iowa was showing interest,” Robinson said. “They let me know if it doesn’t work out they still want me there.”

An official visit to Ypsilanti came in December the weekend after his Iowa visit. Robinson has former teammates on the Eagles’ roster, so there was an immediate comfort level with Eastern Michigan.

Although Robinson knows playing time will be earned instead of given, he likes the opportunity to see the field early based on the depth chart. Linebacker was a priority for the Eagles in the 2013 class.

“Because they have seniors graduating there is a big need at linebacker and I was their No. 1 guy," he said. "They told me there’s spots on the field and I can get one if I work and am ready to get it.”

Toledo also offered.

Robinson visited Ohio Dominican this past weekend, and he said it was more of a feeling than a reason for why he chose the Eagles.

“I can’t tell you what it was because it wasn’t much of a difference,” Robinson said. “I felt better at Eastern.”
