Top 2014 OL Ross Pierschbacher commits
By Jared Shanker
Cedar Falls (Iowa) offensive tackle Ross Pierschbacher participated in The Opening last summer.
One of the top prospects in the 2014 class and one of only two juniors to participate in The Opening, Cedar Falls (Iowa) Ross Pierschbacher felt there was no need to string his recruitment out any longer.
The ESPN Watch List guard committed to the Iowa Hawkeyes on Saturday. Coach Kirk Ferentz was at his high school on Friday.
“I’m very comfortable with what they’re talking about,” he said. “I woke up this morning and made the decision and want to get the 2014 class rolling.”
The 6-foot-4, 269-pound Pierschbacher is one of the top junior offensive linemen in the country, and competed against some of the country’s top 2013 prospects at The Opening in July.
With Iowa’s reputation for producing NFL-ready offensive linemen, Pierschbacher felt it was the right fit.
“They’re big on the offensive line, and growing up watching them, it’s always been a dream,” he said. “If I knew where I wanted to go, I wanted to get it out of the way and get it rolling.”
Boise State, Iowa State, Nebraska, Northern Iowa, Notre Dame and Wisconsin also offered scholarships.
