South Carolina gets another ESPN 150 RB
By Jared Shanker
Fun and gun? How about ground and pound.
Steve Spurrier was known for airing it out with top-flight quarterbacks while at Florida, but he has been piling up the ESPN 150 running backs while at South Carolina.
The Gamecocks added ESPN 150 running back David Williams (Philadelphia/Imhotep Charter) on Friday, and Williams is the third running back in the ESPN 150 the Gamecocks will sign in the last four classes.
Williams is a taller running back at 6-foot-1 and 192 pounds, but he has the breakaway speed the SEC covets. Williams was timed at 4.40 seconds in the 40-yard dash last year.
Although he was hoping to play with Marcus Lattimore, Williams will have a chance to make an immediate impact in Columbia with Lattimore leaving for the NFL draft. Mike Davis will be a sophomore and was an ESPN 150 member in the 2012 class. The two will compete for the starting role coming out of preseason camp.
Williams is tough physically and mentally, as he transferred to a new school his senior season and led the program to the state championship game in just its first year of existence.
