Fresno State adds three for '13 class
The Bulldogs have added an in-state high school linebacker and two recruits from Riverside (Calif.) Community College to their Class of 2013, according to multiple sources. All three were on campus over the weekend for official visits.
Prep linebacker Leon Jacobs (Merced, Calif./Golden Valley), a 6-foot-3, 215-pound prospect, selected Fresno State over scholarship offers from Air Force, James Madison, Navy, Nevada and Wake Forest, while he also had interest from San Diego State.
Jacobs previously focused on basketball, only playing football during his freshman and senior seasons. This fall, being used primarily as a running back, he carried 133 times for 847 yards and five touchdowns while also registering 19 tackles and three sacks, earning all-league recognition.
“Football -- I took it, I practiced, went hard every day in games. It paid off,” Jacobs told the Santa Clarita Valley Signal. “You have to go where your meal ticket is. Basketball was my love, but it went to football over the course of the season. And everything happens for a reason.”
Devon Brown (Riverside, Calif./Riverside CC), a 5-foot-9, 170-pound wide receiver, picked Fresno State over offers from Bowling Green, Colorado State and Utah State.
His teammate at Riverside CC, 5-foot-10, 175-pound cornerback Tray Hall, also jumped on board with the Bulldogs. He holds offers from UTEP and UTSA and had interest from Colorado State.
Additionally, multiple sources are reporting that senior athlete Kamari Cotton-Moya (Bakersfield, Calif./Ridgeview) is expected to eventually sign with Fresno State. His other offers include Iowa State, Nevada, San Diego State and Utah State.
Fresno State has 17 commitments.
