Scouts: Rolin gives UF options at LB
By Billy Tucker
Matt Rolin (Ashburn, Va./Briar Woods) seems to be a linebacker cut out of the mold of Will Muschamp with his tough, physical playing style and motor that doesn't quit. Rolin is also versatile and disruptive in pressure schemes, which fit well into coordinator Dan Quinn’s multiple 4-3 defense that throws a lot at opposing offenses.
Rolin could line up inside or out for the Gators in their 4-3 scheme and also do the same when they shift to a 3-4, which adds even more value. He has size and length to make plays off the edge and range to produce outside the hashes but is also strong and stout enough at the point of attack to hold up in the middle. Rolin is as smart as he is aggressive and shows good awareness skills in coverage as well. This instinctive linebacker is in position to compete for early playing, but a lot will depend on his recovery from recent knee surgery.
