DE David Kenney III drops Iowa
Four-star defensive end David Kenney III (Indianapolis/Pike) has decommitted from Iowa and is now favoring Indiana, according to multiple sources. Additionally, Scout.com reports that Nebraska could still be in the mix. Kenney, who originally selected the Hawkeyes in April, was Iowa's top-rated 2013 pledge.
ESPN calls Kenney "an active and potentially disruptive defensive lineman ... a defensive end who could potentially end up sliding inside, but the type of scheme he lands in and the how he continues to physically develop will determine where he lines up."
Cincinnati, Iowa State, Louisville, Minnesota, Northern Illinois, Ole Miss, Purdue, Tennessee and West Virginia also extended scholarship offers to the 6-foot-2. 250-pound senior. Boston College, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern and Penn State showed interest.
With the departure of Kenney, four-star tight end Jon Wisnieski (West Des Moines, Iowa/Dowling) is now Iowa's highest-rated 2013 recruit.
If Kenney selects the Hoosiers, he'll join another Indianapolis four-star defender, safety Antonio Allen (Indianapolis/Ben Davis), atop Indiana's commit list. Early playing time could be available in Bloomington, Ind., as the Hoosiers currently rank 95th nationally in points against.
