Scouts: Fennell's a huge get for WKU
By Craig Haubert
Western Kentucky picked up one of its biggest commitments as an FBS program in both the literal and figurative sense. Offensive lineman Joe Fennell (Fort Myers, Fla./South) verbally committed to the Hilltoppers giving them their first four-star prospect in the 2013 class and one of its highest profile pickups since moving up to the FBS level.
With Fennell, Western Kentucky is a getting a lineman with good size and while he will likely line up at tackle for the Hilltoppers he can offer some potential OT/OG versatility. He is an effective and aggressive run blocker. The big man demonstrates good athleticism and can play on his feet in space. He is a strong, productive run blocker at this stage who will need more development in pass protection, but his nimble feet and arm length should be assets and allow him to develop into an equally strong player in this facet as well.
This is a very nice pickup for Western Kentucky in both ability and need. With the Hilltoppers heading into 2012 with an offensivee featuring a lot of upperclassmen in key roles, Fennell is a promising prospect who could work his way into the mix quickly when he arrives in Bowling Green, Ky.
