Scouts: Cormier's a great fit for Arizona
By Billy Tucker
The pickup of Pierre Cormier (San Diego, Calif./Madison) gives Rich Rodriguez his second running back commitment out of California and a four-star prospect who fits his spread system well. Cormier is a versatile back who can line up in the backfield, motion into the slot and through varied alignment create one-on-one mismatches with his top-level quickness and elusiveness in space.
Cormier could be dangerous in this offense with his ability to attack the vertical crease and reach top speed in a hurry. He is really effective as a both an inside and outside zone runner with his ability to see and hit the smaller cut back creases without gearing down. He does a really good job on the bounce and stretch play already showing a college feel. Not a real powerful guy but will slip tackles, runs bigger than measurables and feel he’ll have enough strength to fill his role as a dynamic, multi-touch back in this offense not a downhill, between the tackles workhorse. Look for Cormier to receive touches in a variety of ways, on the ground and through the air, with the ultimate goal of getting him outside or into space.
He has very polished pass receiving skills and his versatile, explosive skill-set will be a valuable component to this offense in the future. His big-play potential and ability to fill a lot of roles should see Cormier vying for early playing time.
