Jayhawks add much-needed DE in Stevens

September, 19, 2013
Kansas needs good recruiting news at almost every position and got some when talented defensive end Austin Stevens (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) committed to the Jayhawks.

He's the Jayhawks' first defensive lineman pledge and eighth overall commitment. Stevens, 6-foot-4 and 235 pounds, chose Kansas over Temple, Boston College, Rutgers and UMass, among others. Stevens recorded 55 tackles and 11 sacks and formed a dangerous tandem with uncommitted defensive end Darius Slade.

Stevens has a solid frame and can put on weight to make it better. Coaches love his motor, and he has a positive attitude of becoming a better player. He should learn a lot from head coach Charlie Weis, defensive line coach Buddy Wyatt and the rest of the staff.
