LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. -- ESPN 300 defensive back Jalen Tabor (Washington, D.C./Friendship Collegiate Academy) has a top five consisting of Alabama, Maryland, Florida State, Florida and Vanderbilt, but two might be inching ahead of the others.
Tabor, who is No. 16 in the ESPN 300 and the nation's No. 4 conerback, talked about his favorites during registration for The Opening football camp:
FSU and Florida: "They both have a great tradition. They just have great football -- their NFL numbers are really high. They teach technique, there is a lot of good football down there. Both are great academic institutions, and I love the the coaches at both schools. I'd say Florida has an advantage over Florida State a little bit because of the DB situation. I'd say, not scheme, but just their DB situation. I've been there more, and I'm more comfortable with Florida. I don't know when, but I'll probably go down there again."
Vanderbilt: "Coach (James) Franklin and what he is doing with the program just says a lot about him. They are winning now, and it's a great academic institution, so that why I really like Vanderbilt right now."
Maryland: "It's my hometown. I'm feeling a little bit of pressure to go to Maryland now. They have a great sponsorship and relationship with Under Armour. They are turning the corner right now."
Alabama: "Football -- just football. When you think of football you just think of Bama. It's as simple as that."
Tabor, who said he likely will make his decision at the Under Armour All-America Game in January, said there are two schools among his top five that are starting to stand out above the rest.
"I can't say one, but I'll give you two: Florida and Maryland. I would say my relationships and familiarity with the campuses and both DB situations. That's why those two are standing out among my top five."
