With all the names of potential Class of 2015 stars floating around, running back Devine Ozigbo (Sachse, Texas/Sachse) has been somewhat under the radar. One Pac-12 school, however, has taken major interest and became the first to offer the 5-foot-11, 207-pound back.
Ozigbo picked up an offer from Utah on May 16, and he’s hoping the first offer leads to many more. Ozigbo was offered by Utah fullbacks and tight ends coach Ilaisa Tuiaki and said that the offer came out of nowhere.
“Honestly, it was jaw-dropping,” Ozigbo said. “I didn’t even know they were interested, so when I heard the words ‘you have an offer from Utah,’ I was surprised and taken back. I was so excited.”
Sachse’s offense was led by 2014 quarterback Kent Myers, but Ozigbo put up respectable numbers as a sophomore. He rushed for 807 yards and 12 touchdowns and caught 19 passes for 222 yards and three touchdowns.
Athletically, Ozigbo is an intriguing prospect. He runs the 40-yard dash in 4.48 seconds, bench presses 280 pounds and squats 490. Along with a Utah offer, Ozigbo has received early interest from Arkansas, Baylor, Notre Dame and Oklahoma.
While Utah is his first offer, Ozigbo said he still has some research to do on the program -- but he’s definitely interested in learning more.
“The only thing I know is that they’re in in the Pac-12,” Ozigbo said. “And they beat Alabama in the Sugar Bowl [in 2009]. Big upset.”
