Billy Ray Mitchell might not be the biggest star at Paramus (N.J.) Catholic, which boasts two players in the ESPN 150, but the offensive lineman is still making a name for himself.
The 6-foot-4, 285-pound prospect is up to seven offers now after a busy weekend that saw him reel in two offers in 12 hours -- from Southern Miss and NC State.
"Southern Miss came right before noon, and the NC State offer came at 6 o'clock when I was eating some BBQ and saw on Facebook they wanted me to call," Mitchell said. "It just felt great. Obviously, my parents are really excited and my teammates are fired up about it."
Mitchell said Southern Miss is alluring because he has family there, and he plans to soon make a trip to NC State.
He's still a few months away from narrowing his list. So, for now, Mitchell said he intends to take a few more visits, see what other offers roll in and just take it from there. After all, he's hearing a lot from several other schools -- such as UConn, Virginia Tech, Rutgers, Pitt and Boston College -- so he could hit double digits in the near future.
He counts location and academics as his priorities. But he's just grateful to make it this far.
"I don't care where I play as long as I can play somewhere," he added.
