Deon Colvin (Cleveland/John Hay) is trying to start his own pipeline. Playing in the shadows of Glenville, the 6-foot-2, 190-pound junior wide receiver knows all about the Tarblooders.
The school known for sending 19 athletes since 2002 to Ohio State, Colvin uses the white, black and red uniforms for that added push after a season in which he recorded 500 receiving yards and score 13 touchdowns.
“I wanted more,” Colvin said. “I had a couple drops. Glenville gives me a little bit of motivation. It drives me. I know a lot of the kids that play there. A lot of my family went there. I love playing them.”
He has already picked up interest from Bowling Green, Miami (Ohio), Notre Dame, Ohio State and Toledo.
After showing strong at Saturday’s Nike SPARQ Combine in Massillon, Ohio, Colvin headed to Bowling Green for a visit.
He plans on seeing every school interested in him by summer’s end, but has a favorite already this early in the process.
“I like Ohio State,” he said. “I like the history. I know every wide receiver and quarterback that has gone there. I’ve watched them every year since I was growing up.”
