As signing day looms, East Carolina has secured two verbal commitments from Grady High School (Atlanta), multiple sources report.
Three-star tight end Darren Dowdell chose the Pirates over offers from Ball State, Florida International, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, Middle Tennessee State, North Carolina State, South Alabama and Wake Forest. ESPN believes Dowdell has the chance to be "a well-rounded and productive player at the position in college."
The Pirates also got safety Dashawn Benton to flip his commitment from Cincinnati to East Carolina. Benton showed off his athleticism on the combine circuit, as he registered an 89.16 SPARQ Rating as a junior.
East Carolina now has 25 commitments for the Class of 2013.
