Three-star cornerback Jalen Square (Mobile, Ala./McGill Toolen Catholic) flipped his commitment Friday from Arkansas State to Southern Miss, multiple sources report. Square's first pledge occurred in June when he picked the Red Wolves over scholarship offers from Memphis and Toledo, along with interest from Louisiana Tech and Troy.
The 5-foot-10, 180-pounder then suffered a difficult setback. Just four games into his senior season, Square sustained a season-ending torn ACL tear that required surgery.
Despite the injury, McGill Toolen coach Bart Sessions doesn't doubt Square's chances of playing as a freshman, telling AL.com, "We think he is a guy who can have an impact for (Southern Miss) immediately. I think he comes in and helps out on special teams right away and works his way into the defensive rotation. He is that talented."
