Landing James Quick is proof that Louisville is a constantly improving program. It's also proof that they never gave up on the highly ranked nearby prospect.

The receiver from Louisville (Ky.) Trinity showed strong interest in Ohio State and Oregon throughout the recruiting process. He visited Ohio State often and talked glowingly about the team's passing attack. In fact, it looked at one point like the Buckeyes might lead for his services. Yet Quick always knew he was coveted at nearby Louisville and never ruled the school out.

Quick gives the Cardinals' 2013 class much-needed star power. He becomes the highest-rated commitment for the class. The ESPN 150 prospect is the No. 98 player in the nation, the No. 10 receiver in the country and the top prospect in the state of Kentucky.

Clearly, it would have been understandable if Quick went elsewhere. He had plenty of options and was intent on finding the best fit for him through a thorough evaluation of schools.

However, had the Cardinals lost a local prospect with so much clout, it wouldn't have looked good. They already lost one of Quick's teammates, defensive lineman Jason Hatcher, to USC .
