LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla – ESPN 150 wide receiver Stacy Coley (Oakland Park, Fla./Northeast) isn’t big on social media. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound senior doesn’t even have a Twitter account or a Facebook page.
But someone posing as Coley has occasionally been known to pop up on both sites with some big news on the uncommitted wide receiver. In the past “Stacy Coley” has listed his favorites and even made a “commitment” to Florida State a few weeks ago.
The real Coley is aware of the accounts and thinks it’s one of his classmates.
“I’m not quite sure who it is but it’s someone from my school that knows me,” Coley said. “I think it pretty funny, especially when he jumps on Twitter and after a day the account has like 6,000 followers.
“If I thought about it long enough I could probably figure out who’s doing it but it’s not a big deal to me. Everyone who knows me knows I don’t do that stuff.”
Coley’s recruitment should speed up considerably in January. He has already taken a visit to Miami and he met with members of the Ole Miss coaching staff before the dead period began. Coley also attended a Florida State practice when the Seminoles were preparing for Tuesday’s Orange Bowl.
“Everything is going well so far with the recruitment,” Coley said. “Going out to see FSU was good. There is a lot of talent on that roster. I’ll know more about my officials in the next week.”
