ESPN 150 quarterback Zack Greenlee (Stockton, Calif./Lincoln) made a name for himself after earning MVP honors at a loaded Las Vegas Elite 11 event last summer. He followed it up by being named as one of the Elite 11 performers at the Elite 11 finals among a field of 25 of the best quarterbacks in the country.
While he committed to the lone program that extended an offer, Fresno State, an injury to Kohl Stewart has provided another opportunity to impress on the national stage this week at the 2013 Under Armour All-America Game in Florida.
Not surprisingly, Greenlee is ready for the challenge.
“My plan is to go out and compete with the best in the country, and hopefully do well in practice and in the game,” Greenlee said. “If this does bring up other opportunities, I will sit down and discuss them with my family. It is a tough decision but you want to do the best thing for your future.”
After throwing for 1,953 yards and 22 touchdowns during his senior season, Greenlee says a few schools have inquired, including Colorado State. But the 6-foot-2, 190-pound quarterback says he has refrained from putting himself out there for other programs after his commitment to the Bulldogs.
“Since I committed I have sat back and enjoyed my time away from recruiting," Greenlee said. “A couple coaches have come by, but Fresno State is where I am going right now.”
Greenlee took his official this month to Fresno State, where the coaches sold him on a bright future for the program following their 9-win season.
“The program had a really good year and I like the direction Fresno State is heading in,” Greenlee said. “We are going to just keep building from there.”
