Oregon State inks three defenders

12/27/2012

Head coach Mike Riley and Oregon State have signed three junior college defensive prospects during the early period, according to a statement on the school's official website.

The most recent signing is from ESPN JC 100 defensive tackle Edwin Delva (Miami/Antelope Valley College), who made if official on Christmas. ESPN Midlands blogger Damon Sayles spoke with Delva about his decision earlier this week.

Additionally, Riley commented on his newest interior lineman: "Edwin will make an impact on this team next season. He’s an important piece of the puzzle at defensive tackle where we lose a pair of starters off the current team. We are very excited to welcome him to Beaver Nation."

The Beavers highest-rated signee is four-star cornerback Steven Nelson (Warner Robins, Ga./College of Sequoias), a one-time Georgia verbal ranked No. 20 in the ESPN JC 100. He selected Oregon State over scholarship offers from Missouri, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Texas Tech, USC and Washington State among others.

Also signing on the dotted line for OSU was three-star defensive tackle Siale Hautau (Salt Lake City/Snow College). The 6-foot-1, 310-pound prospect chose the Beavers over offers from Hawaii, Utah and Utah State.

Including their early additions, the Beavers hold 17 commitments for 2013.
