Junior college outside linebacker Steve Orisakwe (Corsicana, Texas/Navarro College) took his first official visit to Old Dominion and returned Sunday to Texas with an idea of what he wanted in a rising college football program.

Old Dominion, which played at the FCS level this past season, will play two seasons as an FBS independent beginning next season, then move to Conference USA for football in 2015. While Orisakwe wouldn’t be around for Conference USA play, he would be around to help the Monarchs establish themselves as an FBS competitor. The team was 11-2 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the FCS playoffs this season.

“It was a pretty good trip. I enjoyed myself,” Orisakwe said of the campus and the city of Norfolk, Va. “I was impressed with the facilities and the stadium. The coaching squad was fun to be around. They all seemed young and energetic. That’s the stuff somebody likes and looks for when you’re looking to make a program your home.
