Irvin-Sills to take official to SEC school

12/13/2012

Tennessee has quickly leaped into prime contention for three-star prospect Jahmere Irvin-Sills.

The cornerback from Elkton (Md.) Eastern Christian said he'll take an official visit to Knoxville sometime after Jan. 1. It will be his first official visit. Irvin-Sills said the only other school he is considering is UCLA.

Irvin-Sills was committed to Auburn before coach Gene Chizik was fired following the 2012 season. At that point, Irvin-Sills opened up his recruitment.

Tennessee entered the picture thanks to a former tie to the Tigers' staff. Former Auburn coach Tommy Thigpen was hired by Tennessee and is now recruiting Irvin-Sills to be a Volunteer.

However, UCLA presents an interesting challenge. The Bruins have offered Irvin-Sills a chance to play close to former teammates, while Southern California declined to do so.

Two prospects from Eastern Christian, defensive lineman Kenny Bigelow and offensive lineman Khaliel Rodgers, are committed to sign with the Trojans in February. Irvin-Sills' brother and Eastern Christian quarterback David Sills is committed to sign with USC in 2015. The Sills family spends several weeks a year in Los Angeles so Sills can pursue his quarterback training.

There will surely be more top prospects to come through the school. Southern California has a connection there, and Tennessee is trying to do the same.
